American Heart Association Global Collaboration Shines at Scientific Sessions
The Association marked its 100th Anniversary with the 2024 Scientific Sessions, held from 16th - 18th of November in Chicago, Illinois—the city where it all began. Over three days, health care leaders from around the globe came together to advance science, celebrate lifesaving progress, and foster global collaboration.
Spotlight on Global Cooperation
International knowledge exchange took center stage, with discussions focused on shared legacies and the future of health care.
- Late-Breaking Science: "Celebrating a Century of Cardiovascular Science: From Prevention to Treatment, To Cure" introduced groundbreaking approaches to managing blood pressure in diabetes, HFpEF, obesity, and transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy.
- International Symposium: The three-part series, "Global Opportunities to Advance Health and Hope," emphasized multinational research, evidence-based medicine, and improving global cardiovascular health, especially in developing regions.
Engaging Sessions and Meaningful Partnerships
Attendees delved deeper through interactive sessions:
- Global Roundtables: Explored topics like traditional medicine applications, AI in health care, and emerging technologies.
- Joint Sessions: Highlighted collaborations with organizations such as the World Heart Federation, Japanese Circulation Society, Interamerican Society of Cardiology, and the European Society of Cardiology, among others.
In his keynote address, the Association’s President, Keith Churchwell, M.D., FAHA, underscored the importance of partnerships, stating: “Access to care is a universal problem. With our global partners, we must improve the social drivers of health and deliver equitable care, especially to rural and underserved communities.”
A Celebration of Achievement
The Global Quality Showcase brought friendly competition to the stage, with teams sharing impactful innovations. Congratulations to Dr. Josué Páez Tirado and Dr. Pedro Rivera Lara from Mexico’s Siglo XXI National Medical Center for their peer-to-peer recognition award-winning use case, "Improving Care for Acute Coronary Syndrome Patients: Registration of Baseline Characteristics, Treatment and Results – A Step-by-Step Analysis." Dr. Tirado remarked: “It’s time for Mexico to learn from the best—and to become one of the best.”
