A Focus on the Future
This year's 88th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Japanese Circulation Society (JCS) presented a critical theme: "The Future of Cardiology: Challenges in Overcoming Cardiovascular Disease."
Held 8-10 March 2024, the event brought together regional health care providers with global experts to discuss integrating resources to maximize cardiovascular care and research efforts.
A main highlight was AHA’s President Joseph C. Wu, MD, PhD, FAHA delivering the prestigious Mikamo lecture, in which he detailed how stem cells and genomics are revolutionizing cardiovascular medicine. He discussed the innovative 'Clinical Trial in a Dish' approach, which aims to lower costs while increasing the speed and effectiveness of treatment testing.
The AHA and JCS hosted notable discussions focused on several topics, including:
• The promising future of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) for heart failure treatment, cardiac tissue regeneration and understanding inherited arrhythmia disorders.
• Deploying new AI technologies to improve survival and neurological outcomes for in-hospital cardiac arrest, focusing on early detection, prevention and enhanced emergency care training.
• The international potential for AHA’s Go Red for Women campaign to elevate global awareness and action against cardiovascular disease in women.
