Taking control of your heart health is easier with the American Heart Association’s PREVENT™ calculator. If you’re an adult between 30 and 79 without known cardiovascular disease, this online tool, which incorporates the latest High Blood Pressure Guideline, estimates your 10-year and 30-year risk for heart disease, stroke, and heart failure. And it does it all in just a few clicks by combining cardiovascular, kidney, and metabolic health factors for a more accurate picture of your future risk.

To use the PREVENT™ calculator, simply enter your basic health information: age, cholesterol levels, blood pressure, BMI, and kidney function. You can also add details such as ZIP code, hemoglobin A1c, and urine albumin-creatinine ratio to get a more personalized risk estimate. The calculator then provides separate scores for total cardiovascular disease (CVD), atherosclerotic (ASCVD), and heart failure (HF).

This is a great starting point for talking to your doctor about lifestyle changes or medications that may lower your risk.
