In a landmark development for Mexico, Unidad Médica de Alta Especialidad Hospital de Cardiología Centro Médico Nacional Siglo XXI in Mexico City has earned the American Heart Association’s Comprehensive Chest Pain Center Certification, the first public hospital in Mexico and the region to receive this prestigious designation. The hospital was honored for implementing the national Código Infarto protocol and its excellence in the timely diagnosis and treatment of heart attack patients.
“This certification underscores our commitment to delivering the highest standard of cardiovascular care to the people of Mexico,” said Guillermo Saturno Chiu, M.D., general director of Unidad Médica de Alta Especialidad Hospital de Cardiología Centro Médico Nacional Siglo XXI. “It affirms that our clinical processes align with internationally recognized guidelines, helping us provide faster, more coordinated care for patients with chest pain.”
The Association’s Chest Pain Center Certification recognizes hospitals that have created integrated, collaborative systems of care that improve cardiovascular disease outcomes. Centers must meet rigorous criteria and demonstrate their ability to quickly identify, diagnose, and treat patients with chest pain, including those experiencing ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Timely, consistent interventions are required, along with documentation of continuously improving cardiac care protocols. Hospitals must also keep up with the latest research and best practices in cardiovascular medicine.
