The American Heart Association and Japanese Circulation Society forged important new connections on cardiovascular science, education and quality improvement during the Society’s 90th annual Scientific Meeting on 20 – 22 March in Fukuoka, Japan.

Heart Association participants included CEO Nancy Brown, President-elect Manesh Patel, MD, FAHA, International Committee co-chair Dhruv S. Kazi, MD, FAHA, along with staff executives Josh Onia, John Kim, Melanie Turner and Ian King.

One highlight was the Joint Symposium on Critical Care Cardiology. U.S. and Japanese experts examined models for cardiac intensive care units, multidisciplinary team integration, and ways to strengthen education and research. The session underscored shared challenges and regionally adaptable solutions to improve care for critically ill cardiovascular patients.

Brown and Dr. Kazi brought the Nation of Lifesavers message to the 24th CPR Enlightenment Event for Laypeople. Nearly 85 people, including schoolchildren, were trained using Heart Association resources.

Also, during the meeting, the Heart Association honored the Japanese Circulation Association, a different organization, for its Go Red for Women® Japan Tokyo and Osaka Health Seminars.
